wine
Wine is the oldest alcoholic beverage in the world, made from fermented grapes. Its alcohol content is higher than beer yet lower than distilled spirits. While wine is alcohol, it also does contain some nutritional benefits when consumed inmoderation, such as decreased risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Wine can be divided into red, white, sparkling, rosé, fruit, and mead. Wine, of course, can be consumed through drinking, but it also has many other uses, such as cooking, baking, and for religious ceremonies. Wine production is spread across the world, yet most wine is made from one or more varieties of the European species, such as pinot noir, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, gamay, and merlot. The result can be varietal wines or blended wines, depending on the style of wine-making.
